American socialite Paris Hilton checked out Shanghai fashions, cuddled stuffed pandas and sauntered along the famous Bund waterfront on Thursday while visiting China's most style-conscious city for the MTV Style awards.
"Shanghai looks like the future!" Hilton said in a news conference at the Hyatt on the waterfront, one of the newest landmarks in a city teeming with new skyscrapers.
The celebrity heiress, author, singer, perfume designer and reality TV star was spending two days touring China's commercial capital before Friday night's gala awards for Chinese style and fashion trendsetters.
A visit to the city's jam-packed Yu Yuan Garden gave her an authentic taste of Shanghai's juicy steam buns and flower tea and the crowding common in the city of more than 20 million.
But Hilton, unfazed by the throngs of onlookers, carried on with her shopping, pausing to hug an elderly lady and to pose in several dresses by Chinese designer Lu Kun, one of the city's hottest new fashion stars.

The opportunity to party with the fabulous heiress for a night at LAX nightclub and at her new restaurant "Company" at the Luxor was on the auction block to benefit the Nevada Cancer Institute. Paris herself, just back from Tokyo and Korea, flew in for the event, where she arrived with showman Jeff Beacher and LAX owner Steve Davidovich (pictured). After bidding as fierce as Paris' outfit, the winning bidder forked over a whopping $35,000 to party with the globetrotting heiress!
Two losing bidders then approached Paris at her table, asking: If they matched the $35,000 bid, would her magnificence spend an evening partying with them too? Hilton, in her new humanitarian goddess stance, immediately accepted -- quietly raising a whopping $105,000 to the delight of event organizers. Paris lost her grandmother to cancer.

Paris Hilton shocked party-goers at a New York club when she started to pole dance last night.
The heiress, 26, was snapped teasing fans at Manhattan nightspot Club Marquee with some tacky moves. She's even seen caressing her boobs.
Male clubbers we're clearly lapping it up.
'She couldn't seem to get enough of the pole,' an onlooker tells The Sun.
'Perhaps it brought back fine memories of her time behind bars.'

Socialite Paris Hilton said Friday she has renewed her contract to represent a South Korean sportswear giant and hopes to extend her own fashion business here.
"I am very excited to be here, a great market for me. I think the Korean market is great for me," the 27-year-old heiress to the Hilton hotel empire told reporters.
Hilton arrived in Seoul on Wednesday from Tokyo, where she had been a judge in a beauty contest.
She was invited by Fila Korea, the sportswear maker she has represented since March. The value of her one-year contract has been estimated at one million dollars.
